Europe's greenest hotel is in South Tyrol: on the trail of sustainability
In 2023, the climate-positive Naturhotel Leitlhof was awarded the title of "Europe's Leading Green Hotel" for the fourth time and can once again call itself an official "climate partner". The hotel also meets the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The commitment to nature and climate protection includes the energy supply with its own wood-fired combined heat and power plant, electric car charging stations and local suppliers.
South Tyrolean slow food in its most original form
The cuisine at Naturhotel Leitlhof is sustainable, regional and seasonal. The chefs use freshly picked herbs from their own garden to refine their dishes. The nearby farm "Mühlhof", which also belongs to the Mühlmann family, provides the hotel with many types of vegetables and potatoes from its own fields. These ingredients are used to cover all the kitchen requirements. The high-quality meat also comes directly from the farm - from the hotel's own Angus cattle farm.
Hiking in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites
As a member of "Wanderhotels - best alpine", the nature hotel is the ideal starting point for hikes, mountain and trekking tours. The trails into the world-famous Sesto Dolomites start right outside the door. The hotel's own hiking map with tips from local guides and two certified guides show Leitlhof guests the most beautiful routes off the beaten track several times a week. Tip: Hike to the Toblacher Pfannhorn at 2,663 meters.
Alpine spa between onsen pool and pine sauna
Since 2023, Leitlhof guests have been enjoying the 3,000 square meter wellness area in the South Tyrolean four-star superior hotel. The newly designed spa landscape attracts visitors with highlights such as the Japanese-style onsen pool, the black Finnish sauna and the fragrant Swiss stone pine sauna. The omnipresent panoramic view of the Dolomites makes the wellness experience even sweeter. As part of the numerous wellness treatments, the wellness professionals use products from the South Tyrolean cosmetics line Team Dr. Joseph. These are certified organic and 100 percent natural.
Insider tip for historically interested strollers
Just a ten-minute walk from the Naturhotel Leitlhof (and three minutes from the second hotel, Atto Suites & Cuisine), the historic center of San Candido surprises with its culture and long-established craft businesses. The collegiate church, Franciscan monastery and the famous DoloMythos Museum in the pedestrian zone take visitors on a journey through time between the World Heritage Site and the Middle Ages. Cozy felt slippers have been rolled at the Zacher hat maker's workshop for generations.
By bike and train through Val Pusteria/Pustertal
Val Pusteria/Pustertal in the north-east of South Tyrol is a paradise for two-wheeled enthusiasts thanks to its numerous attractive routes, some of which even cross borders. Guests of the Naturhotel Leitlhof can hire bikes and mountain bikes free of charge at the hotel, e-bikes for a fee. With the Mobilcard, buses and trains can be used free of charge throughout South Tyrol. Among the most beautiful routes are those to the Sesto mountain pastures and to Cortina d'Ampezzo - guided bike tours regularly take Leitlhof guests there.

In the morning the sun rises over the peaks, in the evening the lights sparkle in the valley. In this absolute top location on a sun-drenched south-facing slope above Burgeis, every corner of DAS GERSTL Alpine Retreat opens up views that you will never forget, just like the warm, down-to-earth hospitality of the owner family Gerstl.
At 1,500 meters above sea level, guests can enjoy pleasant temperatures even in the warmer months, while relaxing in the open air on box seats by the 18-meter-long, year-round heated infinity pool, on cosy day beds or in the outdoor whirlpool in the sauna garden. Relax, read a good book, take a dip in one of the pools, let your gaze and thoughts wander - all of this is possible at Hotel Gerstl.
The exclusive suites also invite you to do nothing. The new 60 square meter pool suite with a private infinity pool and whirlpool, a large veranda and its own garden for undisturbed togetherness is certainly a special experience. The pleasant vacation feeling of lightness and light-heartedness spreads at the latest during a floating aperitif in the cool water.
If you do want to leave the retreat, there are hikes to nearby Switzerland, mountain bike trails, irrigation canals along historic irrigation channels or a visit to the smallest town in the Southern Alps: the medieval town of Glurns. The Gerstl team also offers daily guided excursions, from guided e-bike tours to joint forest bathing.
After a day full of activities and fresh mountain air, the evening ends with a delicious, multi-course meal. For all their innovative spirit, the Gerstl family relies on tried and tested dishes: the hotel's regionally oriented cuisine, which sources its products from the surrounding area to support the farmers in the valley and protect the environment with short transportation routes, is already a tradition. Once a week on r30 Day, all ingredients even come from within a radius of no more than thirty kilometers - this is when the creativity of head chef Michael Ziernheld and his team is particularly in demand. It is clear how much everyone is behind this concept. When the first elderflowers can be harvested in early summer, for example, fresh blossoms from many of the employees' gardens are brought to the hotel for processing. Fruit, herbs and berries are also grown locally by the GERSTL Unique team. If you would like to take a look behind the scenes of the Gerstl's gourmet workshop, you can do so at the weekly kitchen party. Here, culinary delights are celebrated in a special way and guests are invited to watch the chefs prepare dinner and collect the delicacies from the kitchen in person. If that's not enough, book an exclusive evening at Gerstl's Chef's Table in the middle of the action in the hotel kitchen.
The extent to which the family is rooted in the region is illustrated not only by the r30 philosophy in the food, but also by its continuation in other areas: Building materials are sourced locally wherever possible and are processed by local craftspeople, the cosmetic products are made from regional ingredients and even the staff almost all come from within a radius of just 30 kilometers.

Thus, vacationers relax on comfortable water loungers between ceiling-high, tree-shaped wooden columns, let their gaze wander over the garden paradise from the daybeds and the cozy seating areas, or rest on the large hanging swing. Through automatically opening doors, the path leads to the year-round heated infinity pool, the "Sprudelwoog". At pleasant temperatures, they splash around with an atmospheric play of light and soak up the soothing water pressure of the massage jets.
Sauna fans experience the outdoor sauna island with a Finnish sauna with experience infusions, a steam grotto and bio sauna as well as an ice fountain and experience showers. The indoor and outdoor relaxation areas invite you to unwind with waterbeds, hammocks and plenty of places to retreat.
SPACE AND LUXURY IN THE NEW ROOMS
The PFALZBLICK WALD SPA RESORT lives its concept of free space in all areas. As of now, more spacious and luxurious rooms await couples and families in the newly expanded garden wing. THE HIKING HUB ON YOUR DOORSTEP
Numerous premium themed trails invite active nature lovers to hike, bike and explore the impressive landscape of the Palatinate Forest and Alsace. In addition, the hotel organizes its own hiking weeks several times a year, and hiking events on various themes take place all around the premium hiking region.

At the intergenerational family hotel PFALZBLICK WALD SPA RESORT, every member of the family - from grandchildren to grandparents - will find relaxation and adventure amidst the pristine nature of the Palatinate Forest. Water rats enjoy the natural bathing pond. Little explorers go with grandma, grandpa and Co. on the numerous premium hiking trails directly from the resort grounds, following in the footsteps of the castle ghost and the old legends that entwine themselves around the bizarre rock formations and the numerous castles of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park. Should the Palatinate sun not shine, nearby museums and an ore mine are waiting to be discovered.
